The Psalms Collection

Summer 2024 Abstract Collection

The Psalms Collection, beautiful abstract paintings reflecting seven psalms by abstract artist, Brooke Harris, Lexington, Ky

The Psalms Collection

Be still.

Take a quiet moment to sit.

Be inspired by the seven psalms and the reflective paintings that accompany them.

I invite you to view the paintings as a worshipful response to a loving God. Allow their abstractions to spark new thoughts in your mind - abstract paintings for abstract ideas of love, joy, and steadfastness.

Read the ancient words. Speak them aloud. Write out the key phrases that stick in your mind and your heart.

Each painting was inspired by a specific psalm and a few verses spoke to my heart as I created them. I pray that they bring you closer to the God who loves you.

Below are the verses that brought joy and reflection as Brooke created
this collection:

“He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name.”  Psalm 23:2-3 NLT

“But the love of the LORD remains forever with those who fear him.” Psalm 103:17 NLT

“May your glory shine over all the earth.” Psalm 108:5 NLT

“Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.” Psalm 119:105 NLT

“The LORD Himself watches over you! The LORD stands beside you as your protective shade. The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon at night.”

“I long for the LORD more than watchmen long for the dawn, yes, more than watchmen long for the dawn.” 130: 6 NLT

“I can never escape from Your spirit, I can never get away from Your presence…” Psalm 139:7 NLT

“He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name.”

Psalm 23:2-3 NLT

Psalm 23 is one of the most well-known psalms, and for good reason! It speaks of the Lord’s protection for His people and His blessing on our lives. Surely His goodness follows us all of our days!

The Psalms Collection was inspired by seven psalms that I meditated on daily. I read and underlined them. I spoke the words out loud. Writing them down, I repeated phrases over and over that stuck with me. I listened to Ellie Holcomb’s album, All of My Days on repeat as I painted.

For Psalm 23, meditate on the swirls of color and abstract landscape and remember that He guides you along peaceful streams and right paths—place in a special spot in your home where you will be reminded of His goodness.

Each 5x7-inch piece is painted with high-quality acrylic paint on canvas sheet.

Each painting is framed in an elegant gold frame to protect it. It is ready to display with style.

“But the love of the LORD remains forever with those who fear him.” Psalm 103:17 NLT

Psalm 103 recounts all the good things the Lord has done for David. He has forgiven all of his sins, healed him from disease, redeemed him from death, shown him love and tender mercy, and filled his life with good things. David is so excited about this he says: “My youth is renewed like the eagle’s!”

As I read this psalm closer I found the greatest joy is in verses 16-18. David explains that our lives are like grass. We live and die, but the love of the Lord remains forever and is passed down from generation to generation to those who are faithful. What an amazing gift we have! His love never leaves us and our families.

“May your glory shine over all the earth.” Psalm 108:5 NLT

In Psalm 108 David starts with pure praise, showing his confidence in the Lord and his loving kindness. In verse 5 he writes, “Be exalted, O God, above the highest heavens. May your glory shine over all the earth.” After verse 5, the psalm continues with David crying out to the Lord to help rescue His people. He is pleading with God to show his glory. This is my prayer for our modern world too. May His glory shine over our cities and communities, over our war-torn countries and weary people.

Verse 5 is the lynchpin between praise and request. It asks for the Lord to show up and shine in His creation. What a patient Father we have to listen to us!

“Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.” Psalm 119:105 NLT

With its 22 separate sections and 176 verses, Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the Bible. It is a meditation on the beauty and power of the word of God and it is described in many ways: His law for instruction and teaching, His testimonies, His precepts or guidelines, His statutes and commandments, His judgments, His word and decrees, His promises and ways. All of this, He spoke for us to His people so that we would know Him better.

As I meditated on this key phrase, “Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path,” I was thankful to have His promises recorded in my Bible and in my heart.

“The LORD Himself watches over you! The LORD stands beside you as your protective shade. The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon at night.”

Psalm 121:5-6 NLT

Psalm 121 is a psalm of ascent. This psalm and 14 others (Psalms 121-134) were sung by pilgrims journeying to Jerusalem for major feasts such as Passover and the Feast of Tabernacles.

I love imagining the ancient Hebrew people singing this psalm, prophesying the Lord’s protection over their journey.  “The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever.” Psalm 121:8 NLT

Psalm 130 | abstract painting from the Psalms Collection | visual meditation & reflection
$55.00

“I long for the LORD more than watchmen long for the dawn, yes, more than watchmen long for the dawn.” NLT

Psalm 130 is a psalm of ascent, meaning it was one of the 14 psalms sung by Hebrew pilgrims as they journeyed to Jerusalem for the important festivals including Passover, and the Feast of Tabernacles.  As I painted, I repeated the words over and over, “I long for You more than watchmen long for the dawn.” Watchmen are extremely tired at their overnight post but they still must be alert and protect the city. Through this image, we see that the Lord gives us rest and peace and we long for it!  No enemy has come in the night and now the watchmen are able to sleep. I too long for rest and peace in the Lord.

The Psalms Collection was inspired by seven psalms that I meditated on daily. I read and underlined them. I spoke the words out loud. Writing them down, I repeated phrases over and over that stuck with me. I listened to Ellie Holcomb’s album, All of My Days on repeat as I painted.

For Psalm 130, meditate on the longing your heart feels for the presence of the Lord in your life.

Psalm 139 | abstract painting from the Psalms Collection | visual meditation & reflection

“I can never escape from Your spirit, I can never get away from Your presence…” Psalm 139:7 NLT

Psalm 139 shows the intimate relationship David has with God. As you read, you can clearly see how David’s heart is for the Lord. Psalm 139 shows us that the Lord knows us in deep ways. He knows our actions and our thoughts. God knows us before we are born and has loving thoughts about us. As I painted, I meditated on the thought that no matter where I go or what happens in my life, I will never be too far away from the guidance of the Lord. What a comfort!

The Psalms Collection was inspired by seven psalms that I meditated on daily. I read and underlined them. I spoke the words out loud. Writing them down, I repeated phrases over and over that stuck with me. I listened to Ellie Holcomb’s album, All of My Days on repeat as I painted.

For Psalm 139, meditate on the presence of the Lord in your life and how much He loves you.
